|Science teaching and learning in HIHS seeks to engage
and ignite the passion of every HIHS student to learn scientific knowledge,
skills, processes, ethics and attitudes with understanding through a
progressive 3Xs approach– EXCITE, EXPLORE and EXCEL.
There are various platforms that aim to enthuse students in exploring and engaging in scientific inquiry. The approach is inquiry-based where students learn to research, collect and analyse information, explore and experiment in ways that encourage creative and problem-solving skills. Assessment practices include self-reflection, peer and teacher feedback to facilitate improvement. Ultimately, the aim is to develop in students the joy of learning, that they may use the knowledge, values and skills acquired to impact society in meaningful ways.

|The learning of Science in
HIHS encompasses a range of activities within and outside of school, including
learning journeys and workshops to introduce to students new ways of seeing and
thinking about their learning, competitions to expose students to new ideas and
perspectives, science research projects and attachments at post-secondary
institutions to help students find relevance and connectedness to learning.

|The Science research programme (in collaboration with NYP), the Elementz Science Research Conference & Exhibition, and the ignITE Skills Challenge are some platforms that allow for development of scientific skills, knowledge and values.

|Science Investigative Project in Forensic Science|
|The Forensic Science
project provides opportunities for students to explore Science in greater
depth. The hands-on experiences allow them to see connectedness across the
three disciplines in the Sciences, and encourages development of 21CC skills
such as creative problem-solving, sound reasoning and reflective thinking, as
well as effective communication and collaboration skills.
|Project SaVE (Sustain and Vitalise Environment)|
|In Project SaVE,
students apply thinking skills to study science concepts that address
environmental and sustainability issues, and care for growth that take into
account our natural heritage: our trees, our clean air and our clean waters.
